Vaara: A Blessing screened at Thimphu

Vaara: A Blessing, a film by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche was premiered in the capital yesterday. The film revolves around Indian classical dance and seamlessly merges reality with fantasy. In the film Lila lives with her mother Vinata, a temple dancer who is wed to one of the Gods, in a remote part of India. Meanwhile Shyam is a sculptor who asks Lila to be his model as he makes a goddess figurine. Knowing fully well that this may lead to danger, Lila agrees and soon the two fall in love. Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche said that he was so enthralled by the Indian classical form of dancing that he wanted to make it the main thread of the film so he adopted the story by Sunil Gangopadhyay. He told the local media that he was inspired by his love for “the amazing, profound and deep” Indian classical dance. The cast comprises Shahana Goswami, Devesh Ranjan, Rohit Raj, etc. The film was also screened at the Busan festival last year.
